[WEEK 4] INTERNATIONAL NEWS: The Egypt Protest ended.

Mubarak stepped down, the end of martial law, the terminations of emergency laws, the rights of freedom and justice, build a responsible non-military government and let them manage the whole Egypt resources, these are all the Egyptians demanded for. Their wish has finally realized. The Egypt revolution which began on 25th of January and has been struggled between the Egypt government and its resident for around 2 weeks has finally come to an end.

The Chaos ended after the Vice President Omar Suleiman announced on 11th February that the president of Egypt, Hosni Mubarak who had been ruling over the country for 30 years, found guilty for the political corruption, would be stepping down from his position and turning power over to the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces.

After all these, the Egyptians were celebrating it at Cairo. While for those who support Hosni Mubarak were really disappointed. The international community has made an evaluation of this issue. Some of them think that it is good and some think that it is bad. However, most of the countries think that the protest must be carry on peacefully, and hoping to have some reforms. They also expressed their concern about the situation. On the other hand, I’m glad that our country Malaysia did a good job on the evacuation process. None of the Malaysian was hurt or involved in the demonstration. All the Malaysian, especially the students in Egypt and from our country has been evacuated safety.

Even though this issue has finally came to an end, but who will be taking over Mubarak position and is there any possibility of the protest will happen to the Egypt government again?

[WEEK 4] LOCAL NEWS: Another teen’s suicide case.

After ‘Alviss Kong suicide case’, there are always similar suicide cases happening around us, and most of them are teenagers. Yesterday, 11th of February, a 22 year-old guy from Penang who attempted to commit suicide was jumped off from a building.

This happened 6am early in the morning, after the guy had a quarrel with his girlfriend for 2 hours continuously. His girlfriend abruptly ran out from the house and attempted to jump from the 8th floor. He immediately persuaded his girlfriend and he had successfully saved the girl at last. Unexpectedly, he suddenly rushed out from house and immediate jumped across the wall. He then died from fatal head injuries on the spot.

So far, no one has find out the reason why he jumped off. According to his parents, he didn’t act abnormally before he committed suicide. He didn’t have actions like those in previous cases; he didn’t leave message or express any last words through facebook. “My brother and his girlfriend were in a 9 months relationship, they had argument and were about to put an end on this relationship 2 weeks ago.”  His elder brother revealed. Few witness were regretted that they didn’t stop them from quarrel before this happened. In addition, he was suspected to be drunk because according to the building’s cctv, he needed his friend to support him while waiting for the lift.

In addition, the parents also stated that the ex-girlfriend of their son is not welcome to the funeral. They are blaming the girls on ‘indirectly’ killed their son.

I really wonder why the teenagers nowadays don’t appreciate their life. What they did is really disappointed their parents and their loves one.

Due to the continuous heavy rain in the past few days, floods hit a few states in South Malaysia again on 1st of February. This time, it came at the very wrong time, while most of the Chinese is welcoming their Chinese New Year.

The Floods affected those who are staying in Johor Bahru, Segamat, Melaka, Kuantan and Seremban. They were forced to be involved and to face this critical situation. So far, there are around 4 millions of victims that had been evacuated. Unfortunately, 4 were killed.

Segamat was the most affected area. Its water level has reached 10 feet. Most of the main roads, railway and shop lots were flooded. In addition, there was neither supply of electricity nor water, the street then became empty and quite. There was even a lack of the Chinese New Year atmosphere.  Besides that, the Railway station services were interrupted due to the flood, the train line which travels from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur and Kelantan were canceled. Therefore, those who were about to return to their hometown were forced to delay their trip. The deputy prime minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin described that this is an unusual phenomenon if it continues to rain, this disaster will probably exacerbate.

Fortunately, the water level had gone down and the rain has become lesser. I’m glad that the evacuation plan went well. Hundreds of relief centers that had set up at these states were giving a helping hand to those flood victims. Some of the victims stated that: It was blessed that this flood was not as serious as the one year 2006. Hopefully those who were involved will still enjoy celebrating this Chinese New Year with their love ones happily even it is a ‘wet Chinese new year’.

Following by the Hong Kong artist- Edison Chan’s storm in a teacup, here comes another similar case happened at Bandung, Indonesia. The Indonesia pop singer, Nazril ''Ariel'' Irham has been sentenced to three and a half years in jail and and fined him $25,000 under a controversial pornography law.

Police said earlier a friend of Irham's had taken the sex tape off his computer and posted it on the Internet. Irham denied it was him on the tape. He surrendered to the police on 22nd of June last year but authorities have not charge his celebrity girlfriends, Luna Maya and Cut Tari.

The 6-8 minutes long sex tapes of him with his celebrity girlfriends, spread wildly on the internet and in a case that led to a wide crackdown on Internet porn in the country and after this, it was exclaimed that at least 32 artists was involved as well. Most of them are artists and some are celebrities but apparently that it has more women involved compare to the Hong Kong Artist last time.

This scandal has been a tremendous shock to Indonesian and bringing the big and negative impact to this conservative Muslim country of Indonesia. A 33 years old woman stated that:” I have 3 daughters. Therefore, I think that porn is even more harmful than drugs for me.”

In my opinion, Irham as a public figure, I think he should know that how he acts will actually affects some of the people, especially his Fans to mimic his behavior. Therefore, he should have behaved himself and never decrease the social values and image.

I guess most of the people have heard about the 15 minutes long dong abused video clip which posted on facebook (FB). This is a video clip of a poor poodle being abused by a Chinese man.

In this video, the man with distinctive tattoos on both arms and with speaking of Cantonese repeatedly hitting, punching and slapping the poor poodle in attempt to make it stands on its hind legs. His inhumane action has caused disputes and arouses from the pets lovers on internet within or outside the country. It also attracted over thousands of furious FB users to share the clip around, comment on this video clip and spread news of this video in attempt to identify the culprits.

According to <The Star> newspaper, the video clip was uploaded by a FB user who claimed that she discovered a thumb drive on the KLCC floor.

The SPCA (The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) has been flooded with complaints and leads over the matter. The spokesman of SPCA stated that:’ We have appointed some stuff to look for the address that people provided online but the mission failed because we believed that the person have moved.’

SPCA is asking the public to come forward if they have any information regarding to the video and whereabouts of the man. Animals are human’s friends. Treating them like this is way too cruel. I hope that the man in this video will be identify and bring to justice soon.

[WEEK 2] INTERNATIONAL NEWS: Moscow Airport Suicide Bombing

Moscow Domodedovo Airport graphic and factbox

A suicide bomber was set off as an act of terror by a 30-35 years old man. The blast caused at least 35 dead and wounded up to 180 people. It happened on 25th Jan at the Moscow busiest airport arrival hall.

The appalling scene of the terminal in airport was engulfed by smoke and splattered with body parts. There were a pile of bodies on the floor and others scattered around. A Russian investigator found an ‘Arab appearance’ head that presumed belongs to the suicide bomber.

According to a witness, the suicide bomber went into the airport with a backpack where he believed that the explosive was probably hidden in there. The suicide bomber interfused himself into the crowd at the arrivals area and he shouted:” I want to kill all of you!” before he blew himself up.

Describing the attack as an act of terror, Russian president Dmitry Medvedev hosted an immediate meeting of top officials and ordered a security regime across the country’s main airports and railway stations as well.

Hours later after the incident, authorities closed the entrance of the immigration area immediately. At least 50 ambulances and 10 fire trucks arrived at the airport. All of the injured were then sent to four different hospitals for treatment.

This incident included the injured that came from different country, Including Britons, Germans, Italians, French, and Spanish. The word terrorism means the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce. What’s the most hurtful is that those innocent people who injured or died in this incident, they don’t deserve this. I send my condolences to all those innocent people who have lost relatives or been injured.

[WEEK 1] INTERNATIONAL NEWS: Floods hit Brisbane, Australia's 3rd-largest city

Australia Floods

A flood which happened in Queensland, Australia has grabbed the world attention.

This is the most expensive natural disaster in Australia’s recorded history. The cost to rebuild damaged roads, buildings and infrastructure across all the affected states may cost as much $30 billion.

Floodwaters washing through Australia's third-largest city, Brisbane crested Thursday just shy of record levels but high enough to submerge entire neighborhoods and cause damage one official likened to the aftermath of war. One man died after being sucked into a storm drain by the muddy waters. Waters in some areas had reached the tops of roofs, shut down roads and power, and devastated entire neighborhoods.

Queensland State Premier Anna Bligh said. Thousands of homes were swamped, and officials told residents it will be days before many of them can return to their houses. Others were told their homes will never be habitable again.

The flooding, which has killed 25 people since late November, has submerged dozens of towns – some three times – and left an area the size of Germany and France combined under water. Highways and rail lines have been washed away in the disaster. Queensland officials have said the price of rebuilding homes, businesses and infrastructure, coupled with economic losses, could be as high as $5 billion.

This natural disaster has been a slow-motion disaster.  Many victims who involved in this disaster need help from us. However, I am glad that everyone is lending a helping hand to them. The Queensland minister for tourism, Peter Lawlor, said people thinking of visiting Australia can help by booking a holiday in Queensland. He said most tourism attractions were not affected by the floods. These include the Great Barrier Reef, Cairns, the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast and much of Brisbane itself where it is business as usual.
